About Riccardo Mottola
I am interested in photography, mainly traditional photography. I use film and manual cameras since I was 8 years old. My father photographs, my grand-father was a photographer and taught me the essentials of shooting and processing, my great-grandfather took pictures and I am proud to have and use his cameras. Today, in certain occasions, I side classic cameras with digital cameras, albeit I strictly use them without manipulation. Especially for aerial photography digital is an useful companion. I mark images strictly with the medium they were taken in. Black-and-white images are shot on film, developed by me and either scanned or printed by me.

With Venice canals and buildings in the backdrop, there is a Carnevale performer sitting on the bridge. My first reaction was amusement for there are two photographers here; one unseen and one seen - the photographer taking the photo of the Mask or the Mask taking one of the photographer. Upon closer examination I really appreciate the details that went into this costume for it does indeed represent travel. Travel is represented in the skirt of the dress where I can see post card words and stamps upon the fabric. Also in the hat are picture frames with photos of famous landmarks.
Riccardo Mottola replied:
You have a keen eye. The picture is of very high resolution thanks to the old folding camera: indeed this is a double play, a photographer (with a his historic camera) takes a picture of a "travel" mask with another historic camera. Not only the dress, but even the brooch has a detailed image that can be seen! Personally I like rendition of the background and this is a spot in Venice where I come back again and again with the masks.
